Cooperation and Forward Thinking Will Bring Dacula a Bright Future

I believe Dacula has a great and bright future! I think if we work together, citizens and city government, we will achieve that future.

The Nov 8th election is here tomorrow and it has been a most interesting campaign. I believe we have three candidates who really love their city and want only the best for her future! There are several challenging questions our city must ask as we move farther into the 21st century.

How do we encourage an environment where more and more businesses (hopefully some large ones and even technology companies) want to locate here so that we can increase our tax base and be better able to afford such projects as a much-needed renovation of downtown? To that end, I am a strong advocate of Sunday alcohol sales in Dacula as an idea whose time has come. Why do we want to let other surrounding towns who offer that to have the much-needed revenue that could be ours?

Also, as a freedom-loving American, I do not relish the idea of any government telling me what I may or may not drink or eat, etc. I say we should offer options for a free society who can then choose based on their own conscience or religion or what have you.

How can we increase our law enforcement presence so that it might act as a better deterrent against the escalating crime in Dacula? Despite their best efforts, the Gwinnett County Police dept has a huge job in covering all the outlying unincorporated areas of the county and it is the City Marshals who are always the first on the scene of incidences within the city limits. Perhaps a small expansion of their department is warranted to see how that might affect crime statistics here - a successful foray into a Marshalss office expansion might suggest we need to set up our own police dept.

How do we adopt a more fiscally conservative city council spending policy that might allow us to give some relief to city taxpayers instead of raising their tax rates? I believe the city council can be more frugal when purchasing such things as road equipment, maintenance equipment and patrol cars. I think this frugality would result in greater cash reserves which, when such things as budget deficits arise, they could dip into to prevent such actions as millage rate increases on citizens.

How do we bridge that huge gap between residents and their city government? I think that citizens should be much more involved in their city council's decisions. I believe it is only through greater cooperation between Dacula's citizens and its elected officials that we will be able to provide this town with a brighter future. I want to see regular public forums addressing specific topics that are weighing on the minds of its our city's residents.

I have made Dacula my home for over 20 years. I raised a family here. I care what happens in the future of our town!! I am not a politician, I have no elected experience, I do not pretend to have all of the answers to every single question. What I feel I do have, though, is the passion, commitment and determination to seek out the best answers to those challenging questions we face.

As an active grassroots person, I believe it is our responsibility to get more involved on the local level to change the course of our government and our nation. We all know that change always begins at home, on the local level. Change requires individuals with fresh perspectives and creative, outside the box thinking. I believe I am that kind of person. I will give the position of City Councilwoman my absolute best efforts!

We need elected officials who see their position as public service rather than as stepping stones to ambition. I see this city council position as a public service commitment, not a chance to feather my own cap in any way. I would answer to you as citizens and I would expect to be held accountable for voting the way that I said I would.

I believe Dacula has a great and bright future! I think if we work together, citizens and city government, we will achieve that future. I ask for your VOTE of confidence tomorrow when you go to the polls at City Hall on Harbins Rd.  I will honor your vote and promise to always listen to what you want to say! Let me be YOUR VOICE FOR DACULA'S FUTURE! I will not let you down!
