Maybe the Key to Getting the Body Shape You Want Is More Than Diet and Exercise

In life, what we want is only going to happen when we see ourselves achieving and believe in our ability to make it happen.

In a scorching Atlanta summer afternoon, the thermostat in your house controls the temperature.  If you want it to be 70 degrees, you set the thermostat at 70 and the temperature doesn’t deviate much above 70.

When it comes to fat loss results, our most important and powerful thermostat isn’t our metabolism.  It is something far more critical to our success, and is called “self image”.  This is the image you have in your mind of yourself.  How fit can you be, how much can you accomplish, how successful can you be.  This self-image sets the bar for what you can and will achieve. 

Working in the fitness industry as a coach, I have found that the biggest limiting factor in the transformation process is what people believe about themselves.  Unfortunately, most people have a negative vision of their life, or certainly one that is very self-limiting.  Many people believe that their body will always look like the current image they hold in their mind of themselves.   Do you see the body you’re working toward, or do you see the body you have been trapped in for too long?  Even worse, do you see your life on the decline, instead of incline?  You will never rise above that internal thermostat until you change those images into the truth about who you are.

You can change where you currently are for the things you set out to achieve.  If the image in your mind is one in which your best day (or best body) is behind you it is impossible to achieve more.  But, if instead, you expand your vision and paint a picture of yourself achieving big things, then and only then will you be able to change where you are.  If you can see the “new you” you can make it happen.

We try very hard to help our clients realize their potential as they work hard on getting fit.  We can see the differences and point out the fantastic improvements in their body shape and conditioning.  As soon as they see it, the transformation really occurs and the “self image thermostat” rises significantly.  Maybe it is time to turn up your temp!  Till next time.
