Our Bodies Truly Are 'Miracles'

If we believe that our bodies truly are miracles from God, why don't we want to take responsibility of taking care of it?

Before I decided to take charge of my health, I always heard the phrase that our bodies are miracles, but never really understood what that meant.  When I began to investigate how our bodies work in order to come up with my health plan, I was truly amazed at the complexity of our body and how it is really programmed to be healthy IF we just didn’t interfere!  Here are some statistics about our body that I never knew until I did some reading and some watching:

  1. Our bodies are made up of about 75 trillion cells
  2. We have about 20,000 genes
  3. We have over 650 muscles
  4. 450 million nerve endings
  5. 60,000 MILES of blood vessel/arteries/capillaries

In just one 24 hour period:

  1. Our heart beats over 100,000 times
  2. Our blood travels 186 million miles (We pump 1900 gallons/day, 690,000/year, about 48 million to age 70)
  3. We breathe 23,000 times
  4. Our kidneys filters 42 gallons of liquid
  5. We speak over 25,000 words
  6. We exercise 7 million brain cells (more or less)
  7. We replace 300 billion cells

In just one 60 second period each of our 75 trillion cells has 200,000 chemical reactions.  That is a huge number (1.5x10/19).  We just go about our business with no clue as to what is happening in our body.  There is no computer on earth or scientist that can replicate the human body.

Why don’t we plan on giving it what it needs to run the way it is programmed to run?  It is really our “responsibility” to take care of what God so graciously has given us.

Till next time,  Be  healthy, Paul
