Support Your Local Libraries

Book donations provide additional funding for GCPL.

Looking for something to do with your old paperbacks and hardcovers? You can now help the and by donating your used books.

Gwinnett County Public Library (GCPL), in partnership with Better World Books, is collecting used books to be sold, donated or even recycled.

“No books make it to a landfill,” said GCPL representative Denise Auger. “It really does help a ton to avoid any kind of waste of all.”

Auger said library patrons have asked for years to be able to donate used books. Now, through its partnership with Better World Books, the library has a way to accept book donations and generate additional revenue to fund library operations and special literacy programs.

Better World Books has placed collection bins at each Gwinnett County library location, including the Dacula and Hamilton Mill branches. Better World Books then collects the donated books, sells them and returns a portion of the proceeds.

“Twenty percent of all the sales from a bin are given back to the community,” Auger said.

With recent library budget cuts, Auger said the sale proceeds are a welcome revenue source.

“It’s just a way to help us support ourselves,” she said.

According to a GCPL press release, Better World Books has successfully re-used or recycled more than 40 million books while raising over $9 million.
