Win for Wyn Foundation: Making a Difference for High School Football Seniors

Dacula residents have lots of opportunities to serve their community. Check here each week for a new opportunity in or near our hometown.

For the past five years, Stephanie Scott and her husband football coach Tommy Scott have privately funded the Mill Creek Win for Wyn Scholarship in honor of their son Wyn. Wyn was born prematurely and inspired everyone with his amazing, courageous and fighting spirit for 25 days. The Scotts established this scholarship back in 2006 and it is awarded to a deserving senior Mill Creek football player who is nominated based on the school’s lettering policy. The secondary criteria, which these young men must demonstrate, is a fighting determination such as that shown by preemies like Wyn.

Past Mill Creek recipients of this scholarship include Chris Tarver, Tyler Reed, John Certusi, Jon Hull, Ed Russ, Ricky Fawbush and Devonte Lewis. The Win for Wyn Foundation’s mission is: “To inspire and award high achieving Gwinnett County High School Football seniors with exceptional fight, determination, leadership, and character and to provide them with financial support for secondary study.”

This year the Scotts are fulfilling a dream by expanding this scholarship program to include two 2011 Win for Wyn Gwinnett County Scholarships in addition to the traditional Mill Creek scholarship. The student athlete who receives this award must have a 3.0 GPA, 1500 SAT or 20 ACT score, must letter in a GCPS varsity football program and will be nominated by a school’s head coach for showing leadership, character, fight and determination.
