Funeral for Mill Creek Student to Be Held Friday

MCHS freshman was killed in a car accident over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

UPDATED at 2 p.m. on Nov. 29 Funeral services for a Mill Creek High School student killed in a Nov. 26 car accident will be held Friday. Zachary Holman, 16, and his sister Madison Holman, 11, were passengers in a truck being driven by Ralph Edward Whitmire Jr., 40, of Lawrenceville. According to Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright, Whitmire was traveling westbound on Bethany-Bowersville Road in Hart County at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Saturday when the vehicle left the roadway, hit a ditch and overturned. The vehicle came to rest upside down and all three occupants were ejected. Holman died at the scene. Whitmire was taken to AnMed Medical Center in Anderson, S.C. where he was treated and released according to a hospital …

Funeral Services Set for Lifelong Member of Appalachee Baptist Church

Funeral services for Mrs. Opal Peevy Parks set for Thursday.

Mrs. Opal Peevy Parks, age 82, of Hoschton, passed away on Monday, Oct. 10. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Mrs. Parks was born Aug. 12, 1929 in Lawrenceville. She was a homemaker and lifelong member of Appalachee Baptist Church in Auburn. She enjoyed traveling and being with her friends and family. Mrs. Parks was preceded in death by her husband, J. W. Parks; son, Jack W. Parks; parents, Olin and Lois Peevy; brother, Rev. Robert Peevy; sisters, Dorothy Reynolds, Sue Griffin and Barbara Emerson.  She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Barbara Parks of Buford; daughter-in-law, Connie Parks of Hoschton; grandchildren, Amy and Josh Fulmer of Ft. Former Michigan Tech Basketball Player to Be Laid to Rest

Glen Hulquist was a retired appraiser and also a tennis player, former basketball player and Sunday school teacher. Memorial service to be held at Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church.

Glen Hultquist Glen Hultquist, age 77, of Hoschton, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 9. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather to his family. Hultquist was born Oct. 24, 1933 in Norway, Mich. He was a 1951 graduate of Iron Mountain High School, Iron Mountain, Mich. and a 1955 graduate of Michigan Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree. While at Michigan Tech, he played four years of varsity basketball. He was an all-state basketball honoree in Michigan. He also attended the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee for his postgraduate work. He was a retired M.A.I. appraiser from the business he owned, Appraisal Services, Inc. in Dunwoody. He played ALTA tennis and participated in the Peachtree Road Race.  He was a Sunday school teacher …

Helen Nichols Tuggle Helen Nichols Tuggle, age 87, of Dacula, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Tuggle was born on January 25, 1924 in Dacula.  She was retired from Sears Roebuck Co. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church in Dacula and a member of the Rainbow Senior Citizens Club.  Tuggle was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Eugene Tuggle. She is survived by her daughter Anita Mitchell of Dacula; son and daughter-in-law, Paul Ray and Joann Tuggle, Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; five grandchildren: Amanda White, Allison Mitchell, Eric Mitchell, David Tuggle and Bobby Tuggle; four great-grandchildren: Paul David Tuggle, Gavin and Jackson Mitchell and Lucas White; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel Wright of Tucker, Louise and Charles …

Funeral Service for DHS Student to Be Held Saturday

Christopher Smith, 18, to be laid to rest in Tifton, Ga.

A Dacula High School student who died earlier this week will be laid to rest Saturday. Christopher Smith, 18, collapsed during school on Tuesday and was taken to the hospital where he later died. According to Gwinnett County Medical Examiner Ted Bailey, the cause of death was a pulmonary embolism. Funeral arrangements for Smith are still being finalized, but a spokeswoman for Taylor and Son Funeral Home in Tifton, Ga. said the funeral service is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8.  The location for the service has not yet been set. The burial will follow at St. John’s Baptist Church Cemetery, 3980 U.S. Highway 41 N., in Tifton. Terry J. Cash Terry J. Cash, age 59, a resident of Dacula and the Hog Mountain community, passed away on Friday, Sept. 30.  Mr. Cash was born on Dec. 17, 1951 in Atlanta, Ga.  He received his education at North Gwinnett High School. He was a truck driver for Ernst Enterprises Inc. and an avid outdoorsman. He loved his family and will be greatly missed by all. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Jewell M. Cash. John Calvin Pierce served in the United States Army at Normandy, Ardennes, Central Europe, Northern France and the Rhineland.

John Calvin Pierce John Calvin Pierce, age 92, of Dacula, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 25.  Pierce was born April 10, 1919 in Murrayville, Ga.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army as a Private First Class Battery B 231 ST of the Armored Field Artillery Battalion. He served his country from April 4, 1942 to October 29, 1945. He was in battles and campaigns in Normandy, Ardennes, Central Europe, Northern France and the Rhineland. He served as a gun crewman in the Light Artillery 844.  He received the American Theatre Service Ribbon, EAMET Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.  He retired as a window foreman from Georgia Window Company in Powder Springs. Before retiring, he worked in the building industry as a carpenter supervisor and window …

Ewell Eugene "Gene" Greeson Ewell Eugene “Gene” Greeson, age 74 of Dacula, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 21. Greeson served in the United States Air Force and was an author and inventor. Greeson is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Greeson of Dacula.
