Car Strikes House in Hamilton Mill

Accident happened in the early morning hours of Dec. 15.

A home on Vista Creek Drive in the Hamilton Mill subdivision of Dacula was damaged after being struck by a car shortly after midnight on Dec. 15. According to Sgt. Brian Doan of the Gwinnett County Police Department, the vehicle struck a non-load-bearing wall. Details regarding the accident are not yet available, but Doan said it did not appear as if anyone had been injured. Doan confirmed the driver of the vehicle was arrested, but did not have information regarding the charges. More details will be posted once the report is available. Wrong Way Driver on 316 Causes Crash

Several people were trapped in a vehicle and had to be extricated.

Three people have been hospitalized after a Friday night crash near the intersection of Highway 316 and Winder Highway -- an accident which police say was caused by a wrong way driver. According to an emailed statement from Gwinnett County Police, the head on collision occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. The wrong way driver is believed to have been driving under the influence. Several calls were placed to the 911 center reporting a wrong way driver in the minutes immediately preceding the crash, police added. Several people were trapped and had to be extricated by Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services personnel. Three patients were transported to area hospitals. Two Die in Fiery Crash

The vehicle occupants were believed to be traveling to Lake Lanier after leaving an Alcoholics Anonymous class.

Two people are dead after an early morning crash in Sugar Hill. According to Gwinnett County Police, the one-car accident occurred on Sycamore Road a half mile north of Nelson Brogdon Boulevard (State Route 20) shortly after midnight.  The vehicle -- a dark gray BMW 740i -- was traveling north on Sycamore Road when the driver lost control, crossed the double yellow line and struck a tree. The vehicle caught fire and both the driver and passenger were dead by the time the fire was extinguished. The GCPD Accident Investigation Unit has not yet positively identified the victims due to the severity of the injuries sustained in the crash and the resulting fire. Dacula Man Dies in Oklahoma Car Crash

The 82-year-old Dacula, Ga. resident died as a result of a Saturday car crash in Craig County, Okla.

An 82-year-old Dacula man is dead after a June 2 crash in Craig County, Okla. Tulsa's KTUL reports Carl McElhaney was travelling eastbound on the Will Rogers Turnpike when his vehicle left the roadway, crashed through a fence and went airborne before landing upside down in a pond. Four people who witnessed the crash pulled McElhaney from the crash, according to The Oklahoman McElhaney was life-flighted to a Tulsa hospital where he later died. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Unsecured Manhole Cover Blamed for Downtown Dacula Accident

Driver said car dealership estimates repairs to her vehicle will cost $8,000.

An unsecured manhole cover is being blamed for an April 25 accident that caused a woman to lose control of her vehicle as she was driving through downtown Dacula. Linda Moore was driving towards Wilson Street when she heard what she described as a “deafening” noise. Moore’s vehicle had struck a manhole cover that dislodged and caused her vehicle to go into the hole. Moore said the impact caused her to lose control of the vehicle and sent the manhole cover flying through the air. Dacula City Marshal Steve Cline later located the cover approximately 15 feet away from the impact site according to the Gwinnett County Police report. Driver Loses Consciousness, Crashes Vehicle

A single car accident on Braselton Highway resulted in the driver and passenger being transported to the hospital.

A medical issue is believed to have been responsible for a Monday afternoon accident that injured two people. A 21-year-old woman said she was driving northbound on Braselton Highway near Huntington Hill Trace at approximately 11:30 a.m. when she lost consciousness. The vehicle began to swerve and her passenger grabbed the steering wheel in an attempt to bring the vehicle under control. The 2009 Honda Civic left the roadway, went into a ditch and flipped striking a fire hydrant and a utility pole before coming to a stop. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. UPDATE: 85N Re-opened After Accident

A tractor trailer hit an overhead sign at the 85N/316 split, shutting the highway down for several hours.

Updated 12:52pm All lanes of I-85N are now re-open.  The accident occurred just before 10 a.m. Wednesday and involved a single tractor trailer at the 316 split. Gwinnett County Police Department spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said the driver had an issue with a tire, possibly a flat or loss of tread, and he attempted to pull over. The driver was not able to stop in time and ended up crashing into a support beam for an overhead sign, causing the sign to fall over all lanes of the highway. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.  Traffic was backed up for miles and drivers diverted to 316. Here are pictures from the scene.
