Transportation Town Hall Meeting is Tonight

Gwinnett citizens will have the opportunity this evening to weigh in on regional transportation priorities.

Gwinnett County residents will have the opportunity to offer opinions regarding a regional transportation project list during tonight's telephone town hall meeting. Members of the Atlanta Regional Transportation Roundtable executive committee are currently in the process of whittling down a 445-item, $22.9 billion "unconstrained" list of suggested transportation projects into a "constrained" list that can be funded by the $7 billion in revenue a proposed 1 percent transportation sales tax is expected to generate for regional projects. Next July, voters will be asked to approve the penny sales tax to fund a specified list of regional transportation projects. The tax, if passed, will remain in effect for 10 years. The roundtable is …

I plugged in via 1-888-886-6603 using Pin #16724 to participate about 7:22 PM. While I was lisrening to the happenings, I had an incoming call tone and when I answered same, it appered that my telephone number was among those randomly chosen. After the telephone town hall meeting concluded, I checked my Caller ID and saw that the call was from GA State Gov't and came in at 7:36 PM. I was not …   more ›

GDOT Releases Updated TSPLOST Projections

Ten-year tax could generate as much as $18.6 billion statewide.

New figures show a proposed transportation sales tax could generate as much as $8.4 billion in the Atlanta metro area over a 10-year period. Statewide, the tax could rake in up to $18.6 billion for transportation projects during the same period, according to estimates released by the Georgia Department of Transportation. Next year, voters will be asked to approve the 1 percent, 10-year sales tax for the purpose of funding transportation projects. Voters in each of Georgia’s 12 regions will be presented with a list of transportation projects for that region. If voters pass the tax, money collected within that region will be used to fund the specified projects. Gwinnett is part of the Atlanta Regional Commission region. Members of the …

TSPLOST is on the ropes. If it doesn't gridlock at the roundtable then those of us who are opponents of TSPLOST should resolve to "shorten the ring" and deliver the knockout punch at the ballot box on July 31, 2012.   more ›

I haven't formulated a complete opinion on the TSPLOST yet, as I am working thru the 'everyone pays their share' via a sales tax formula (SPLOST, 'Fair Tax', etc.) vs. the potential of other types of taxes being raised or even the government entities issuing debt bonds to cover costs. I am a long believer that the role of government is protection, safety by the rule of law and environmental …   more ›

The Atlanta Regional Transportation Roundtable is asking for the public’s help as it prioritizes a list of regional transportation projects. Between now and May 15, citizens may complete a brief survey designed to determine what the transportation priorities of the region should be. Gwinnett is part of a 10-county region that covers the metro Atlanta area. Each county and municipality within the region has submitted a list of transportation projects to the Atlanta Regional Commission for inclusion in the metro Atlanta region’s project list for the Transportation Investment Act of 2010. Several Dacula road projects and one Hamilton Mill area project were submitted for consideration. The Atlanta Regional Transportation Roundtable will review…

I took the survey. I meant to look if there was a way to see when this went active. Only having a little over 10 days to complete seems a little sneaky by the people running the survey. Hopefully this will get picked up by a lot of media outlets and a lot of people will respond to the survey. It certainly appears to be a popularity contest of sorts as to which jobs you would support and which …   more ›
