A Dacula man is now without an all-terrain vehicle after a thief or thieves struck in the middle of the night. According to the man, his ATV was parked on a trailer in front of his Brooks Road home. During the overnight hours of Jan. 6., a thief or thieves cut the straps securing the ATV to the trailer and rolled the vehicle off the trailer. There are no known witnesses or suspects. The ATV, a 1996 red Polaris, has an estimated value of $1,000. The man was unable to provide police with the vehicle identification number at the time of the report which prevented the officer from being able to list the vehicle as stolen in the state database. An early morning patrol in the area of Old Freeman’s Road near Mobley Drive led an officer to the scene of some unlawful behavior. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, the officer spotted a Ford truck parked alongside Old Freeman's Mill Road while checking the area shortly after 3 a.m. on Jan. 6. All of the lights on the vehicle were off, but, as the officer approached, two occupants raised their heads “as if they had been lying down on the seat.” The officer noted that the male driver’s pants had been partially removed. “I immediately smelled what I thought was an alcoholic beverage and asked what the two were doing,” the officer wrote in the report. Two suspects attempted, but failed to steal money out of a machine at a Braselton Highway car wash.

The owner of the Super Car Wash, located near the intersection of Gravel Springs Road and Braselton Highway, estimates it will cost $3,000 to replace the machine damaged during a Dec. 30 theft attempt. The owner contacted Gwinnett County Police after discovering the damage and reviewing surveillance video of the incident. According to the police report, a silver Toyota minivan pulled up next to the vacuum around 10 p.m. on Dec. 30. One male exited the vehicle and appeared to stand watch while the other male attempted to pry open the front door of the machine. A 54-year-old Buford man claims a pistol-bearing older man assaulted him during a Christmas Eve confrontation at a Dacula QuikTrip. The Buford man told police he won a prize in a scratch-off lottery game at the Hamilton Mill Parkway QuikTrip and walked up to the counter to inform the clerk. He then reportedly heard another customer ask the clerk to speak louder because of the “yapping.” According to the police report, the Buford man took offense and replied, “Dogs yap, I’m a grown man.” At that point, the other customer allegedly told the Buford man to shut up. A burglar or burglars did not make Christmas merry and bright for a Hamilton Mill resident. Gwinnett County Police were called to the 3300 block of Lamont Terrace on Christmas Eve after a resident returned home to find someone had burglarized his home. According to the police report, the resident left the home at about 11 a.m. When he returned at 7 p.m., he noticed his iPad 4 was not where he had left it. The resident then walked into his kitchen and noticed the back door of the home had been forced open and damaged. The iPad 4 has an estimated value of $600. Two retail employees escaped injury during a recent armed robbery at the Dacula Road Autozone. Shortly after 2 p.m. on Dec. 19, an Autozone employee noticed two males waiting at the register as if they wanted to make a purchase. The employee told police he was walking behind the counter to get to the register when one of the males pushed him to the floor. “The male then pushed what [the employee] assumed to be a pistol to the back of his head and told him to lie there and be quiet,” the officer wrote in the incident report. A Dec. 23 fight at the Trophy Club of Apalachee on Dacula Road ended in gunfire, but no arrests or reported injuries. Gwinnett County Police were dispatched to the club at approximately 12:45 a.m. after a caller indicated a fight was underway. Officers were enroute to the club when dispatch advised that shots were being fired. Police arrived as multiple vehicles were trying to leave the scene. Officers secured the scene and interviewed multiple witnesses who indicated only one shot was fired after a large fight broke out. One witness recorded the fight with a cell phone camera. According to the police report, the video showed the fight, but no armed individuals. Officers searched the parking lot for shell casings, but did not locate any. …

Gwinnett County Police were called to the QuikTrip on Hamilton Mill Parkway on Dec. 2 after a store employee made an unusual find. According to the employee, the overnight manager discovered a small Ziploc bag containing a crystal-like substance on the floor near the fountain drink machines. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine. An officer took the methamphetamine and placed it into evidence. So far, no one has come forward to claim it. The case is listed as active. The driver of a vehicle that struck a home on Vista Creek Drive in the Hamilton Mill subdivision of Dacula on Dec. 15 allegedly blamed the accident on a momentary distraction. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, Steven Govedich, 52, of Dacula, said he was in the process of changing the station on his radio when he lost control of his vehicle. While speaking with Govedich, the GCPD officer noticed an odor of alcoholic beverage and asked Govedich if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages that evening. For the second time in less than a month, a truck used by a security company to patrol the Hamilton Mill subdivision clubhouse and pool areas has been vandalized. On Dec. 10, an employee of the security company contacted Gwinnett County Police after discovering all four tires on the security vehicle had been slashed. The vehicle, which had been parked at the Hamilton Mill clubhouse, was damaged at some point between 10 p.m. on Dec. 8 and 9 a.m. on Dec. 10. According to the police report, the driver’s side door of the vehicle had also been kicked several times. The investigating officer reviewed video from a security camera in the area.
