Santa Busy Preparing for Christmas

Jolly old elf reminds children to be on their best behavior as he tours Dacula neighborhood..

Fire Department to Host Safety Fair

Officials will share tips on avoiding Christmas disaster.

Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services (GCFES) will host a holiday safety fair on Saturday, Dec. 18.  The fair will include a live Christmas tree fire safety demonstration. Statistics released by GCFES indicate that 21 percent of holiday structure fires are first ignited by Christmas trees. According to the National Fire Protection Association, U.S. fire departments responded to an average of 250 home fires ignited by Christmas trees each year from 2003 to 2007. Each year, these fires result in 14 deaths, 26 injuries and $13.8 million in direct property damage. The holiday safety fair will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lowe's Home Improvement Center, located at 3260 Lawrenceville-Suwannee Road in Suwanee.
