A Dacula man is now half a million dollars richer after winning the Fantasy 5 lottery game. “It feels pretty good,” Dacula resident Stephen Hewitt, 67, told lottery officials upon being presented with an oversized check for $500,800 at the store where he purchased the winning ticket for the June 23 drawing. According to a press release from the Georgia lottery, Hewitt began playing Fantasy 5 three months ago. “I randomly picked numbers and kept playing them,” he said. The timing of the win was fortuitous for Hewitt, who is currently facing medical expenses related to his cancer treatment. “I just finished radiation. Buford man to split $115,000 Fantasy 5 prize with friend.

A Buford man and his friend credit “male intuition” for leading them to purchase a winning Fantasy 5 lottery ticket at a Hoschton convenience store. Thomas Hinton of Buford and his friend Angelo Fanelli purchased the winning ticket at Jack’s, 1929 Highway 211 in Hoschton. The two friends will split the $115,000 jackpot. “I bought it with my buddy, and we decided to do it,” Hinton said according to a press release from the Georgia Lottery Corporation. “It was intuition … male intuition that was working that day. Maybe it was premonition.” The winning numbers from the Aug. 7 drawing were 10-28-31-32-36. Winning jackpot tickets were also sold in Norcross and Albany according to lottery officials. An Auburn woman is more than half a million dollars richer after purchasing a winning Fantasy 5 ticket at the Publix on Auburn Road. Yvonne Pillert, 44, of Auburn, matched all five winning numbers in the June 28 Fantasy 5 drawing to secure a total jackpot of $663,308. The winning numbers were 26-27-28-33-39. Profits from the Georgia Lottery pay for specific educational programs including the HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. Since its inception, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $12.5 billion to the state for education.
