The Fort Daniel historic site on Braselton Highway in Dacula will now belong to Gwinnett County and its citizens. The Gwinnett Board of Commissioners voted Dec. 11 to purchase the 4.32-acre site for $241,000 with funds from the 2009 SPLOST program. The property also includes a 1,500-square-foot home. “We look forward to working with community groups such as the Gwinnett Archaeological Research Society and Friends of Fort Daniel to provide educational opportunities for Gwinnett County youth and families,” Gwinnett County Board Chairman Charlotte Nash said in a released statement. PTA holds second annual fun run fundraiser to assist the school in meeting needs of students, teachers and the community.
After the success of last year’s fun run at Fort Daniel, the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) decided to hold another one. “We’re counting on the same success or even more than last year,” said Fort Daniel Principal Paul Willis. In past years, PTA fundraisers have provided the school with additional resources for teachers and students including technology, playground equipment, an exercise track and more. This year’s fundraiser will allow the school to pour an activity pad for the playground. The pad will have stencils on the surface designed for different outdoor activities.
