Hamilton Mill Park and Ride Use Growing Steadily

GRTA representative says ridership has met expectations.

Since its Aug. 1 opening, ridership at the Hamilton Mill Park and Ride has easily met expectations according to Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) chief public relations officer William Mecke. “On Route 413 that goes to downtown Atlanta directly, the best day had 100 boardings which is as fast a start as we have ever had,” Mecke wrote in an emailed response to questions. “Route 411, that has been running for about a year from the Mall of Georgia, continues to perform well with its new starting point at Hamilton Mill.” Boarding numbers for Route 411 from Hamilton Mill are not available since GRTA does not keep separate tallies for boardings from the Mall of Georgia and the Hamilton Mill Park and Ride. The route, however, has …

GRTA: ‘Solid and Pleasing’ Start for Dacula Park and Ride

Officials release ridership numbers for the first month of service at Dacula park and ride and first day totals for the new Hamilton Mill facility.

Ridership at the Dacula Park and Ride is off to a good start according to an official with the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA). Chief Public Relations Officer William M. Mecke described the numbers for July as “looking pretty good.” GRTA Xpress Route 416 averaged 38 boardings a day last month. A boarding is recorded as each time a rider gets on the coach. Most riders will count as two boardings a day – one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The peak day for ridership was Tuesday, July 19 when the service had 81 boardings. “This is a solid and pleasing start,” Mecke said. On Monday, GRTA Xpress service began at a second Dacula area park and ride. The Hamilton Mill Park and Ride on Sardis Church Road had 39 boardings …

I have been commuting on the Dacula Xpress bus since it began. I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to leave my car in the lot, sit in a comfortable seat and leave the driving to someone else. I have reduced my fuel costs, car maintenance, car insurance and best of all my stress level has gone way down. The drivers are friendly, and I have made some new friends among my fellow riders. Hooray for…   more ›

Dacula to Atlanta Bus Service Underway

Handful of riders use new GRTA service on opening day.

Only a handful of riders boarded the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority’s (GRTA) Dacula to downtown Xpress bus this morning, but driver and supervisor Damon Taylor hopes that will change. “I think now that we’ve actually reached out and found a route that is doable -- that can reach out to this community and this area -- I think it will help out quite a bit,” Taylor said. “It’s been needed for a long time.” Taylor said the goal of the service is to ease traffic while giving commuters a safe and comfortable ride. “This service will help people get downtown without having to sit in traffic 30 to 40 minutes each day,” Taylor said. “The HOV lane helps us out quite a bit. We get to bypass a lot of that standstill traffic.” The GRTA buses…

Each year I take the Miss Memorial Day Queen to the capital to learn about their government. We begin at the state capital and move on from there to a government building for lunch. I have always been limited to only 5 queens without the parents due to space, now I can have the parents go with us because of the bus system. GRTA Commuter Service to Begin June 20

Xpress bus routes will take Dacula area commuters to downtown Atlanta.

Beginning Monday, local commuters will have a new option for getting to and from downtown Atlanta. The Georgia Regional Transportation Authority’s (GRTA) Xpress service launches June 20. About a dozen people were on hand for the June 13 informational meeting in which GRTA spokesman Rob Alexander answered questions regarding routes, fares and other service related questions. “We pride ourselves very much on having personal customer service,” Alexander said as he distributed information to the group of potential GRTA customers. One of those potential customers, Dacula resident Gloria Palmer, has been using commuter bus service for four years. Palmer currently commutes 30 minutes each way to and from the park and ride at Highway 20 and I-985 …

I am so happy about the new Xpress Route 416 to downtown Atlanta. I rode it for the first time Friday (6/24) morning. I would been there Monday (6/21) had I known about the new 416. My husband happened to see the bus on his way to work Thursday Morning. I was using the Discover Mills park and ride. This is much much more convenient. On Friday, there was just two of us on the 6:50a bus and on the …   more ›

New HOV Lane Entry Points Mean Changes for Commuters

A six-mile gap between entry and exit points could leave area commuters spending more time in traffic.

The conversion of the existing HOV lanes on I-85 to toll lanes is almost complete.  But there are more changes than the access rules for many commuters. Gwinnett residents may have noticed the recent restriping of access points to the lane. Designated access and exit points are marked with a dashed double white line.  The new entry points on I-85 South leave a six-mile gap between the Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road start point and Beaver Ruin without access to the lane. Suwanee, Duluth and Lawrenceville residents that enter I-85 at Old Peachtree, Sugarloaf, 120 and Boggs Road must navigate through a stretch of heavy traffic before having access to the HOT lane. According to Jill Goldberg, Deputy Press Secretary for the Georgia Department of …
