Award-winning Dacula Artist Donates Work to Support Local Arts Organization

Henry M. Wood Jr.'s watercolor titled "Takin' a Break" will be auctioned off in early February.

An award-winning watercolorist and Dacula resident has donated one of his paintings to support a local arts organization. Henry M. Wood Jr.'s painting titled "Takin' a Break" will be auctioned off at the Barrow Chamber of Commerce's annual dinner Feb. 4 in support of the Georgia Piedmont Arts Center. Residents who wish to bid on the painting who may not be attending the dinner can contact Kathleen Gill, president of the Georgia Piedmont Arts Center, to make arrangements for phone bids. 'Fire & Ice': Georgia Piedmont Arts Center Presents First Gallery Show of 2012

Dacula resident and award-winning watercolorist Henry M. Wood Jr. judged the first of three winter gallery shows for the local nonprofit arts organization.

The Georgia Piedmont Arts Center has deemed its first gallery show of the new year a success. "There was great diversity of work and all skill levels were represented," Kathleen Gill, president of the arts center, said in a news release on "Fire & Ice", the first of three scheduled winter gallery shows for the local nonprofit arts organization. Guest judge for the show was award-winning watercolorist and Dacula resident Henry M. Wood Jr. Best of show honors went to Patricia Schumacher of Lawrenceville for her fiber art piece titled “Sunflower I”.  Awards for two-dimensional entries were presented to Bobbie Austin of Social Circle, who took first place for an acrylic piece titled "Fire", and Jacqueline Stadler of Dacula, who received second…

Georgia Piedmont Arts Center Preparing for Eventful 2012

The nonprofit arts organization is adding to its offerings in the new year.

The Georgia Piedmont Arts Center is preparing for an eventful 2012. The nonprofit arts organization, currently based in Auburn, is filling its calendar and adding to its offerings. New in 2012, the arts center will offer classes in clay hand-building. Also in the works is the center's new Creative Canvas Group — an experience in acrylic painting during which participants will spend an evening completing a work on canvas. The cost for this activity, which will be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. the second Thursday of every month, is $25. Private parties can be arranged. Already in the works are three gallery exhibitions set for Jan. 21 and 22, Feb. 18 and 19 and March 17 and 18. Two outdoor tent festivals are also planned and will showcase fine …

Embrace Your Artistic Side at Weekend Festival

Georgia Piedmont Arts Center to host “Harvest of Art” festival this Saturday in Auburn.

Do you have artistic aspirations? Consider participating in a free mini art lesson during this weekend’s Harvest of Art festival, hosted by the Georgia Piedmont Arts Center. Participants will have three different lessons to choose from during Saturday’s event -- pastels, cartooning and watercolor painting. Lessons in pastels will be taught by Joan Duffey at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Whitney Wheeler will teach cartooning at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Renee Hewitt will offer mini lessons in watercolor painting at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. Children can also participate in the day’s activities. Rebecca McCartt will lead a free “up-cycling” art activity for the younger festival-goers. There will be several art demonstrations …

'Spring Phling' Festival Fun for All

Artists and art lovers gathered at the GPAC art festival this past weekend.

This past Saturday, the Georgia Piedmont Arts Center (GPAC) hosted its "Spring Phling" tent festival. The event featured free art lessons, musical entertainment and beautiful arts and crafts from area vendors. GPAC offers art lessons year round and this summer will hold several art camps for teens and children. The GPAC cottage is located at 1396 Third Avenue in Auburn.

Dacula Man Places at Art Show

Henry M. Wood, Jr. places second in Shades of White gallery show at the Georgia Piedmont Art Center.

Dacula resident Henry M. Wood, Jr. was one of several artists honored at last weekend's Shades of White gallery show at the Georgia Piedmont Art Center (GPAC) in Auburn. Wood placed second in the 2-D category for his watercolor “Listen, Listen and You will Hear Sounds of the Image We Hold So Dear.” Wood was one of 17 artists participating in the show. GPAC president Kathleen Gill described the art center's first gallery show as a success. With 27 art entries, the cottage bloomed into a “lovely little gallery,” Gill said. Gill was also a participating artist, placing first in the 3-D category with her fused glass entry entitled "Choices." Best of Show honors were awarded to Bobbie Austin of Social Circle for her sculpture “Scout.”  Larry …
