Dacula Mayor Proclaims March 2012 as Girl Scout Month

Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks welcomed members of Girl Scout troop 1143 to Dacula City Hall last week and declared March 2012 as Girl Scout Month in Dacula.

Members of Dacula Girl Scout troop 1143 were in attendance at the March 1 Dacula City Council meeting in which Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks declared March 2012 as Girl Scout Month in Dacula.

Girl Scout Leader Focused on Building Courage, Confidence and Character

Amy Smith believes that her group of girls will make the world a better place.

Amy Smith is a Girl Scout leader who believes in instilling important values that help build character and confidence. She leads her group of 12 girls, ages 7 to 8 with this goal in mind. Smith and her co-leader, Gen Cropp, have been leading the girls for two years and just started their third year together. The Girl Scouts of the USA strives to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.  “We are all about sharing fun, friendship and girl power,” Smith said. “Any girl in kindergarten through 12th grade can join. Her search ended in 1911, when she met Sir Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scouts & Girl Guides, & became interested in the new youth movement. Girl Scout Cookie Sales Begin Friday

Cookies will be sold at several Dacula locations.

Tuesday will be a big day for Georgia's Girl Scouts. The international organization will be honored by Gov. Nathan Deal and the Georgia Legislature as it kicks off the countdown to its 100th anniversary in 2012. For more than 41,000 girls in 34 Greater Atlanta counties, however, the day marks the start of the annual cookie sale. Girl Scouts will be selling cookies at hundreds of locations, including shopping centers and offices beginning this Friday, Feb. 18. As part of the annual fundraiser, the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta have created a site to help cookie buyers find the nearest booth.
