Gwinnett Commissioners to Host Series of Town Hall Meetings Beginning in April

The initial session will be in Lawrenceville. More town halls are promised.

The Gwinnett Board of Commissioners will begin a series of town hall meetings soon. The first will be held on Tuesday, April 2, beginning at 6:15 p.m. with an open house. A discussion session will be held at 7 p.m. The initial session will be held at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse, located at 185 Crogan Street in Lawrenceville. According to a county newsletter, representatives from county departments will be at the open house to answer your questions and discuss services they provide. Beginning at 7 pm, the commissioners invite you to share your thoughts and ideas about Gwinnett services. Additional meetings will be held soon, the county says.

County on Solid Ground Despite Economy, Nash Says

In the annual State of the County address, Gwinnett County Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash says it's been a strong team effort that has helped move county in a positive direction.

  Some 500 came to hear Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Chairman Charlotte Nash deliver the State of the County address on Wednesday at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth. Nash, who has been at the helm of the county for about a year after winning the chairman's seat in a special election in March 2011, was quick to point out that it was a team effort that has helped see the county through some of the toughest economic times in recent history. "It takes all of us working as a team to move the county in the right direction," said Nash. The chairman acknowledged the challenges of managing through the affects of the nation's recession. Gwinnett BOC OKs Balanced 2012 Budget; No Reserve Funds Needed

Commissioners also make some appointments to a new I-85 advisory panel.

Updated 3:08 p.m., Jan. 3, 2012 Gwinnett County's elected leaders unanimously approved Tuesday afternoon a $1.3 billion budget for 2012 that does not require the use of reserve funds. Because of about $5 million in reductions identified since the planned budget was announced in November, the county does not need to dip into reserve funds to balance the budget, which was necessary in 2011. Gwinnett BOC Chairman Charlotte Nash issued "a hearty thank you" to county staff that made the final cuts. The budget planning process began with a revenue shortfall of over $30 million. BOC Approves Hamilton Mill Pawn Shop Permit

Special use permit request passes 3-2.

Despite the concerns of nearby property owners, the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved a special use permit to allow a pawn shop in the strip mall adjacent to the Hamilton Mill Walmart. USA Money Services purchased a gold buying business at 2590 Hamilton Mill Road, suite 107, with the intent of converting the 1,658-square-foot store to a pawn shop. According to applicant Mitch Peevy, the business owners intend to focus on jewelry and electronics, not on the items and equipment that might be seen in larger pawn shops. Peevy, who lives in the area, said he was not concerned about the pawn shop opening near his home. “I don’t see it as being a negative to the area,” he said. Commissioners to Vote on Hamilton Mill Pawn Shop Request

Planning commission recommended the special use permit be approved with conditions.

A special use permit request to open a pawn shop in the Hamilton Mill area goes before the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Earlier this month, the Gwinnett County Planning Commission recommended approval for the request by a 7-2 vote. USA Money Services requested the special use permit for a 1,658-square-foot pawn shop to be located at 2590 Hamilton Mill Road, suite 107. A gold buying business was previously located at the site. USA Money Services purchased the gold buying business with the intent to turn the site into a full service pawn shop according to the permit application. Report: Clear Goal Needed for Briscoe

Question and answer session with airport consultants scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center.

The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners will meet with airport consultants Infrastructure Management Group Inc. (IMG) on Tuesday, Sept. 20, to discuss the results of a study commissioned by Gwinnett County regarding the future of Briscoe Field. In a report released last month (see pdf), IMG made several recommendations to the county: The IMG report also noted several other critical issues including: The question and answer session will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners conference room, 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville. The meeting is open to the public.

Gwinnett Board of Commissioners to meet with airport consultants, but will IMG’s report matter?

On Tuesday Sept. 20, the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners will meet with IMG Consultants to discuss issues related to the privatization and/or commercialization of Briscoe Field. 12 Miles of Water, Sewer Lines to Be Replaced

Some work will take place along Mineral Springs Road.

The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved several contracts on July 19 for construction work to replace 12 miles of water mains in 15 different subdivisions throughout the county. Locally, some work will take place along Mineral Springs Road. The Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources used computerized management and maintenance systems to determine which water line replacements would be most cost effective based on break history and repair costs. New iron water lines will be run within the Trotters Pointe, Valley Brook, Cumberland Forest and Windsor Estates subdivisions at a cost of $933,102. Another $2 million contract will cover water main projects along Sudderth Road, Mineral Springs Road and within the Quail Hollow …

Beaudreau to Meet with Constituents at Harbins Park

Meeting will be held this Saturday at the Harbins Park pavilion.

Gwinnett County District 3 Commissioner Mike Beaudreau will meet with constituents Saturday, June 11 at Harbins Park. Beaudreau will host the meeting at the Harbins Park pavilion, 2995 Luke Edwards Road in Dacula, from 11 a.m. until noon. Gwinnett County’s Commission District 3 covers the eastern part of the county and includes the cities of Snellville, Loganville, Grayson, Dacula and Auburn.

Planning Commission Recommends Approval for Daycare, Commercial Development Requests

Two Dacula area zoning cases forwarded to the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners.

The Gwinnett County Planning Commission recommended approval for two Dacula area zoning cases during its June 7 meeting. In the first case, applicant George Flannigan requested his 3.89-acre parcel at the intersection of Braselton Highway and Holman Road be rezoned from RA-200 (Agriculture Residence District) to C-2 (General Business District) to allow for the construction of a 17,385-square-foot commercial/retail building and an additional retail outparcel with a total of 85 parking spaces. The planning department recommended approval of the request saying the new zoning would be consistent with previous zoning decisions in the area.
