GCPD’s online citizen police reporting system has resulted in substantial cost savings and has saved manpower hours as well, according to Gwinnett County Police Department officials. Gwinnett citizens have filed over 800 reports this year using the new system. Officials estimate the system has saved taxpayers approximately $32,160 so far. Cost savings are based on the time required for an officer to complete a report in person. Each in-person report requires at least an hour and a half of an officer’s time and costs roughly $40 per report, officials say. The majority of the reports filed online have been identity theft reports (355 reports). Citizens have also filed 122 theft reports, 80 entering auto reports and 76 theft of lost or …

A man believed to be responsible for as many as 70 burglaries has offered police in the United Kingdom a list of tips which he suggests should be shared with homeowners, the Daily Telegraph reports. Leon Reid, 32, was sentenced last week to five years in prison after DNA evidence was used to implicate him in two South London burglaries. Before being jailed, Reid gave police a burglary checklist which he suggested be added to crime prevention brochures. The checklist explains what burglars look for in a home and what homeowners can do to avoid being burglarized. Reid, who police say never used force to enter a home, offered the following suggestions: Reid also indicated that he avoided homes with pebbled walkways, driveways or patios …
