Smash and Grab Thieves Strike at Harbins Park

Window smashed, purse stolen while victim was nearby.

Gwinnett County Police are investigating another smash and grab entering auto case in the Dacula area. On Sept. 18, a Winder man was visiting Harbins Park with his family. The man said he and his family were at the playground when he heard a noise in the vicinity of his vehicle. The man did not investigate at the time. Later, when he returned to the vehicle, he discovered the driver’s side window had been smashed and his wife’s purse had been stolen. No other items were taken. The purse contained credit cards, a bank card and check book. The case is listed as active. The incident is one of several similar incidents to take place in the Dacula area over the past few months.

Groundbreaking Ceremony Set for Friday

Event marks the beginning of construction at the Harbins Park sports complex.

A Sept. 30 groundbreaking ceremony will mark the beginning of a new Dacula-area sports complex. The Harbins Park sports complex will include a multi-purpose football/soccer/lacrosse field on the Indian Shoals Road side of the park. The facilities will include bleachers, a concession/restroom building and a lighted walking track. According to a county press release, the $5.9 million park improvement project will also include a pavilion, playground, dog park, 3-acre lake and a 1.5 mile long paved trail through the lowlands adjacent to Cedar Creek. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 30 at 4:30 p.m. at 2550 Indian Shoals Road, Dacula.

Multi-Purpose Field Approved for Harbins Park

Facility will be located on the Indian Shoals Road side of the park.

Major improvements will soon be under construction at Harbins Park. A $5.9 million project will add a multi-purpose football/soccer/lacrosse field on the Indian Shoals Road side of the park. The facilities will include bleachers, a concession/restroom building and a lighted walking track. According to a county press release, park improvements will also include a pavilion, playground, dog park, 3-acre lake and a 1.5 mile long paved trail through the lowlands adjacent to Cedar Creek. The improvements, funded by the 2009 SPLOST, were approved along with the $9.6 million expansion of Rabbit Hill Park. Rabbit Hill will add two soccer fields, a trail extension, a concession/restroom building, seven baseball/softball fields, a multi-purpose field…

Bicyclist Assaulted Near Harbins Park

Man knocked off his bicycle after being struck by truck.

A Dacula man narrowly escaped injury after being struck by a truck while bicycling near Harbins Park last Saturday. The victim said he and his wife were traveling on Indian Shoals Road near the entrance to Harbins Park on July 2 when they heard a vehicle approaching from behind and blowing its horn. According to the police report, the couple suspected something was wrong with the motorist due to the fact he began blowing the horn such a long distance away from them. As the couple approached the entrance to the park, a pickup truck pulled alongside them. The victim said the driver, who he described as an unshaven white male 55 to 65 years of age, was “giving them the middle finger and waving his arms about.” The truck windows were rolled up…
