As we celebrate Labor Day, one young member of the work force explains why he believes he and other workers will fare better under a Republican administration.
The Republican National Convention is over and the Democratic National Convention begins Sept. 4. For the next two months, both sides will work to convince voters their presidential candidate is the right man for the job. A recent high school graduate in California has already made his decision. In an Aug. 29 blog post on Fairoaks-Carmichael Patch, Nicholas Palomo, who works at a grocery store, explained why he is frustrated with his current situation. “I get my paycheck every Friday, and I pay about $50 a paycheck in taxes for the 24 hours I worked that week,” he wrote. “So with all the taxes taken out of my paycheck, I basically work 5 1/2 hours a week just for the government. All county offices, excluding those necessary for the comfort and safety of Gwinnett County citizens, will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Trash and recycling pickup will not be affected. Haulers will follow their normal schedules and hauler call centers will be open. Visit www.sustainablegwinnett.com to locate hauler contact information. The Gwinnett County Solid Waste and Recycling Call Center will be closed. County offices will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
Georgia State troopers will be patrolling interstates and secondary roads over the Labor Day weekend.

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) is gearing up for a busy Labor Day holiday travel period. According to Georgia Department of Public Safety Commissioner Col. Mark McDonough, Georgia State Troopers and Motor Carrier Compliance Division Officers will be patrolling the interstates and secondary roadways throughout the weekend. "Past experience has shown the majority of the fatalities over a holiday weekend occur on the state routes, county roads, and city streets," McDonough said in a released statement. Enforcement actions will be targeted at impaired drivers, speeders, people not wearing seat belts, and people who do not properly restrain children.
