The three applicants for the City of Dacula liquor license presented their qualifications to council during a Jan. 30 called work session.
Though Dacula residents will have to wait one more day to learn who will be granted the license to operate the city’s first package store, they had the opportunity Wednesday night to learn more about the applicants. The three applicants -- WeaverDCB, LLC (Heather Weaver), Beverage Warehouse of Dacula LLC (Mike Korom) and Jay Shree Jala, LLC (Peter/Hetel Thakkar) -- were given 15 minutes each to give a presentation to the Dacula City Council explaining why he or she should be selected as the licensee. The presentations, along with the application packets, will be scored by the council members. The council will meet Thursday evening at 6 p.m. to decide which of the applicants will be awarded the license. Mike Korom Self-employed equipment …

The three applicants for the sole Dacula liquor license will present their plans to council Wednesday night.
Last November, voters in the City of Dacula overwhelmingly passed a referendum to allow package sales of distilled spirits within the city limits. As a result of that vote, city officials modified Dacula's alcohol ordinance accordingly and established a process for choosing the city's first, and for now only, licensee. That process continues Wednesday, Jan. 30, as the three applicants for the liquor license present their business plans and qualifications to council. Here are five things you need to know about the Jan. 30 meeting: On Thursday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m. the council will meet to choose the licensee. As with Wednesday night's meeting, there will be no public comment period since it is a called meeting for the sole purpose of awarding…

Proposed store locations are on Winder Highway, Hurricane Shoals Road and Old Peachtree Road.
The application deadline for those interested in being the city's first, and for now only, liquor store licensee has passed. As of the 5 p.m. Jan. 22 deadline, only three entities had filed an application: WeaverDCB, LLC (Heather Weaver), Beverage Warehouse of Dacula LLC (Mike Korom) and Jay Shree Jala, LLC (Peter/Hetel Thakkar). "I'm surprised we didn't have more," said Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks. The fact the application was comprehensive and required a great deal of work to complete may have deterred some potential applicants, Wilbanks explained. Part of the process required applicants to specify where exactly they plan to build a store. According to Wilbanks, the proposed locations are as follows: On Jan. 30 beginning at 5 p.m., the …

Heather Weaver hopes to be the first liquor store licensee in Dacula.
In 2012, Russ and Heather Weaver set out to convince Dacula voters of the benefits a package store might provide for the city. The Weavers launched a petition drive and, after months of going door to door, collected enough signatures to allow the question of whether a not Dacula should allow liquor stores to go before the voters. The voters said yes by an overwhelming 181 to 76 margin. As a result, the city amended its alcohol ordinance and is now in the process of accepting applications from those interested in becoming the city's first, and for now only, liquor store licensee. Heather Weaver is one of those interested parties. Watch the video for details about Weaver's background and business aspirations. You might also be interested in …

City officials will assess plans and credentials of interested parties by Jan. 31, 2013.
Early next year, Dacula city officials will decide who will be allowed to open a liquor store in Dacula. In the November special election, city voters overwhelmingly decided in favor of allowing package stores within the city limits. Now city officials have begun a process that will include revising the city’s alcohol ordinance, vetting applications, approving licensees and submitting required paperwork to the state. “This is a change for Dacula,” said Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks. “This is not an initiative of the city council. This is because we had a successful petition drive and we’re required by state law to follow through and do all the things we’re doing tonight about this liquor store.” Only one store will be allowed to open within the …
