Doing What Her Heart Tells Her to Do

Puckett’s Mill fifth-grader dedicated to helping those less fortunate.

It all started with an article in a tennis magazine. In the fall of 2009, McClain Hermes, now 10, and her father Matt read an article describing how athletic shoe manufacturers were using recycled material from old shoes to make soles for new footwear. “We saw that article and I made the comment to McClain, ‘Well why couldn’t we collect the shoes and give them to people that needed them?’ versus giving them to a large company that was going to make money off of them,” Matt said. An enthusiastic McClain embraced the idea and started “Shoes for the Souls,” a project to collect gently used footwear for the Atlanta Mission, a charitable organization that provides emergency shelter, employment assistance and other help to hundreds of Atlanta …

McClain, your mature way beyond your years - God Bless you child. Tim E. (whoever you are) you should ascribe to the old wisdom of "keep your mouth shut so as to not prove to the world your an idiot.
