If President Obama Visited Your Child's School, What Would You Ask Him?

Education reform had its place in the president's address this week, and on Thursday he will visit an Atlanta-area school. If you had the chance to talk to him, what would you ask?

On the heels of his first State of the Union address since re-election, President Barack Obama will be heading to Georgia where he plans to visit an early learning center on Thursday. Few details have been released about his visit to the Atlanta area on Feb. 14. However, Patch has confirmed that Obama will make a stop at the College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center in Decatur, Ga. His stop here is one of only two metropolitan areas he plans to visit following his State of the Union speech. In the speech, the president set forth a plan for education reform: highlighting the need for top-quality preschool for every American child; promoting high schools that prepare students for jobs in demand, such as science and engineering; and …

@Paul There have many more killings in private homes..so I guess we should post secret service in all homes, as well. You get a little personal there Paul. I have two great sons who both went through grades K to 12 right here in Peachtree Corners. Sorry you feel I'm a "disappointment to parents everywhere". I'm a proud parent and kind of take that as an insult. So I'm going to have to call you …   more ›

Should the President Have Met With World Leaders Rather Than Appear on 'The View?'

Critics from both the left and the right are slamming President Barack Obama's decision to go on ABC's "The View" while not meeting with world leaders. What do you think?

There has been some criticism of the president for missing opportunities to meet with world leaders, but not missing opportunities to appear on popular talk shows. The most recent instance was Tuesday when he and the first lady appeared on ABC’s “The View.” CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer said he thought that President Barack Obama may have made a “misstep” by choosing the ladies of "The View" instead of the traditional meetings with world leaders in town for the United Nations' Convention. “I do think there is potentially a missed opportunity this week for the President of the United States to meet with world leaders,” Blitzer reportedly said. Others have been far more critical, calling it a lack of leadership at a time when leadership from the …

Speak Out: How Do You Rate the President's Speech?

Who had the best speech of the Democratic National Convention? Do you rate the president's speech as the best, or not? Take our poll or comment.

President Barack Obama may have had to change his location -- shutting out thousands of people from seeing him live -- but inside the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C., he still captured the devotion of many. He accepted the Democratic Party's nomination, and then went on to tell the American people that he's done much to get the country back on track, leading with the federal assistance to automakers. And, there's a key difference with before and now, he added: "I'm no longer just a candidate; I'm the president." -- Did you like the president's speech? Did it make a connection with you? Let us know in the comment section. -- Since he's been in office, the president said jobs have been created, trade agreements signed that benefit…

Is Obama's Embrace of Gay Marriage a Risky Move?

Some say Obama's support of gay marriage could drive some voters to Romney.

In an interview on Good Morning America on Thursday, President Barack Obama said that he personally supported the right of gay couples to marry, becoming the first sitting president in history to do so. While Obama stressed that the decision on whether to allow gay marriage should be left up to the states, he said he had come to believe that gay couples should be afforded the same rights as heterosexuals. Many LGBT rights groups are applauding the president's announcement, which came the day after North Carolina voters approved a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in that state. However, some think announcing his support for gay marriage was a risky move for Obama to make in an election year. "“There’s two camps celebrating…

How Would You Rate Obama's State of the Union Speech?

Do you think the president's speech swayed any undecided voters?

Our Patch live blog of the State of the Union has wrapped up, but that doesn't mean the discussion is over! The White House has offered to answer a few questions submitted by Patch users across the nation now that the speech is done. Wholeheartedly agree Jon..but in a society of moochers who live to take, reproduce, take some more and vote, this is the type of leader you get. It is on the backs of the true majority to get out and vote to stop this destructive trend.   more ›
