Gwinnett Braves to Host 'Boston Strong' Night

Sports stars formerly from Boston, including Matt Ryan, Jason Varitek, Rodney Harrison and Dee Brown will be at Coolray Field on May 7. Part of ticket sales from the night will go to OneFundBoston.org.

The Gwinnett Braves will show their support for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing with a special night to raise funds for the families affected. On May 7, the G-Braves will play the Boston Red Sox's minor league team the Pawtucket Red Sox. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. The first pitches will be thrown out by athletes who played in Boston at one time or another. They are: Five dollars from every ticket purchased at gwinnettbraves.com/boston using the promo code "STRONG" will be donated to OneFundBoston.org and benefit the victims of the Boston Marathon tragedy.  The entire evening will be a tribute to Boston. Final Four 2013: Champion to Be Crowned This Weekend in Atlanta

Looking for a team to cheer on to win the 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball championship? Try Wichita State, which brings two Georgia natives back home for the Final Four.

The Final Four of the 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament has been set. Atlanta basketball fans are in for a treat. We get a clear-cut favorite (Louisville), an underdog on a hot streak (Wichita State) and two other programs with March Madness experience (Syracuse and Michigan). If you're not sure who to root for, here's a great suggestion. Despite located 1,000 miles away from Atlanta, Wichita State has a strong tie to the Peach State. Carl Hall of Cochran, Ga., and Tekele Cotton of Marietta are significant contributors for the Shockers. Hall, a 6-foot-8 senior, is a starter who averages 12.5 points and 6.9 rebounds. Gwinnett Sports Hall of Fame Ceremony to Help Fund Scholarships, Grants

Six athletes will be inducted into the Gwinnett Hall of Fame on May 4.

Six honorees will be inducted in the Gwinnett Sports Hall of Fame in a ceremony sponsored by the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation on Saturday, May 4, at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. Tickets are $12 each and may be ordered on the Gwinnett County Public School Foundation’s website at www.gcps-foundation.org. A portion of each ticket will help fund student scholarships, teacher grants and academic initiatives in Gwinnett County Public Schools. This year's inductees are:

Mountain View Baseball Team to Compete in Two-Day Event at Coolray

Ten high school teams will compete on March 8-9, 2013.

Baseball will begin for 2013 this week at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, as 10 high school teams from Gwinnett and Forsyth counties will compete in a two-day, five-game event. On March 8-9, teams from South Gwinnett, Mountain View, Lanier, North Gwinnett, Providence Christian, Duluth, Collins Hill, Brookwood, North Forsyth and Peachtree Ridge will take to the diamond in the event's debut. “We’ve had singular events before, showcasing some top high school baseball teams in the area,” Gwinnett Braves General Manager North Johnson said in a news release.  “Through the efforts of the community and our staff, we have expanded to welcome the largest high school showcase in the history of Coolray Field. Local Women's Football Team Predicted to Go 0-4 in Inaugural Season

The Atlanta Steam, which debuts in Gwinnett in April, has been predicted to go winless in 2013.

With just two months to go before the Atlanta Steam begins play, some are predicting the Gwinnett women's Legends Football League team will have a less than stellar opening season. According to an article in lfl360.com, linebacker Adrian Purnell of the Jacksonville Breeze talked some smack on Commissioner’s Corner, “…everyone thinks we are looking forward to the Atlanta game this year because everyone is talking a big game about them.
