Arrestee: I Thought They Weren't Going to Report the Car as Stolen

South Carolina woman arrested after being stopped on the Hamilton Mill exit ramp from I-85.

A South Carolina woman passing through Gwinnett County took an unexpected detour to the county jail after police discovered the vehicle she was driving had been reported stolen. While patrolling I-85 northbound on March 22, a Gwinnett County Police officer ran the tag of a 2010 Ford Fusion. The tag return indicated the vehicle had been stolen. Officers conducted a felony traffic stop at the Hamilton Mill exit ramp from I-85 and placed the driver, identified as Evelyn Brinkman, 44, of Walhalla, S.C., in handcuffs.  After reading Brinkman the Miranda Warning, the officer asked if she would be willing to answer questions. Woman in Stolen Car: I Thought They Would Just Send Me a Bill

The woman reportedly told officers she did not think the rental car agency would report the car stolen when she failed to return it on time.

A Stockbridge couple landed in jail after underestimating how seriously a rental car agency took the return date in the rental contract. On Feb. 23, Gwinnett County Police stopped a 2012 Nissan Sentra driven by Dayvon Green, 31, of Stockbridge, near the intersection of Highway 316 and Harbins Road after a check of the tag indicated the vehicle had been stolen. Green and his passenger, Valerie Green, 34, also of Stockbridge, were immediately taken into custody. The vehicle, which is owned by Avis, had been rented to Valerie Green and had not been returned on time. When questioned about the vehicle, Ms. Green reportedly said, "I knew it was due back, but I didn't think they would report it stolen. I thought they would just send me a bill." …

Officer Stops Driver for Littering, Finds Contents of Stolen Packages in Car

Three arrested after stolen cancer medications, shoes and Barbie dolls located. A package of “Doom,” suspected to be synthetic marijuana, also found.

An officer trying to get to the bottom of a littering incident uncovered more than just a crime against the environment. On Jan. 10, a Gwinnett County Police officer on patrol in the area of Clack Road and Mineral Springs Road noticed the driver of a black Mercedes pull into a driveway and throw a large white object out the window. The driver, later identified as Tyler Vreeland, 19, of Buford, began to drive away but was pulled over by the officer. “I approached the driver’s door and asked [Vreeland] what the littering was all about and he said that he was just trying to get rid of some of the trash in his vehicle,” the officer wrote in the report. The officer noticed a slight odor of marijuana and asked Vreeland if there were any drugs or…
