Movie Review: ‘Rock of Ages’ Is Fun Tribute to 80s Music

Tom Cruise, Julianne Hough, Catherine Zeta-Jones and more star in Broadway musical-turned movie “Rock of Ages.”

Tom Cruise in bottomless chaps? That’s what “Rock of Ages” viewers are in for according to Steven Whitty of The Star Ledger. “Rock of Ages” is a Broadway musical-turned movie set in the 80s. A small town girl (Julianne Hough) and a big city boy (Diego Boneta) -- both hoping to make it big in Hollywood -- meet on the Sunset Strip. Their love story is intertwined with a cast of other characters including Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise) who Whitty described as “basically Axl Rose with a few more thorns, an unpredictable and slightly mad star in bottomless chaps.” But is the movie worth watching? “I was ready for ‘Rock of Ages.’ I wanted nothin' but a good time. 'Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol' Full of Thrills and Action

The fourth installment of the "Mission Impossible" franchise is bigger and better than previous installments.

Movie: "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" Tom Cruise returns to the silver screen as super-spy Ethan Hunt in the latest installment of the Mission Impossible franchise. Film critic Roger Ebert calls MI4 "a terrific thriller with action sequences that function as a kind of action poetry." Ebert lavished particular praise on a sequence that had Cruise 100 stories up on the glass windows of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the world’s tallest building. Cruise reportedly performed his own stunts for the movie -- a claim Ebert calls into doubt: "The character Ethan Hunt is seen like a human fly clinging to glass, thousands of feet in the air, and you’re telling me we aren’t looking at computer-generated imagery?
