Campus Carry Bill 'Not Going to Go Away'

SB 101's sponsor Sen. Frank Ginn vows to keep fighting for the measure.

The campus carry bill, HB 512, didn't pass in the last session of the Georgia General Assembly. The Board of Regents, the Chancellor of the University System and the Presidents of Georgia's public universities and colleges opposed it. As did many parents, faculty and community members. No matter. According to Senator Frank Ginn (R-Danielsville), "that bill is alive and well and in the Conference Committee right now. It could be passed on the first day of the session next year." Ginn told people who attended a Federation of Neighborhoods meeting Monday night that his pupose in introducing SB 101 was to address reciprocity between Georgia and South Carolina for licensed gun owners. His bill more or less got away from him, and other …

Georgia Football vs. Nebraska: Dawgs Looking to Close Season on Triumphant Note

Will the Bulldogs start 2013 with a win?

Coming off a heartbreaking SEC championship loss in which a few yards made the difference between playing for the national title and being passed over for a BCS berth, the Georgia Bulldogs are looking to close out the 2012 season on a triumphant note in their New Year's Day Capital One Bowl matchup against Nebraska. Some analysts think that's likely. "With the way that the Bulldogs left Atlanta, they are looking for redemption and there is not much that the Cornhuskers can do to stop it from being achieved," Ian Berg writes for Bleacher Report. Nebraska was shucked by the Wisconsin Badgers in the Big Ten title game, 70-31, leading Berg to write them off for New Year's Day. But coming off that embarrassment, the Cornhuskers will be on a …

Georgia Bulldogs Football vs. South Carolina: Battle for the SEC East

The undefeated Bulldogs take on the undefeated Gamecocks in the biggest SEC game so far this season.

“It’s a big, big game right now,” the Macon Telegraph quotes Georgia head coach Mark Richt saying. “When you start playing this deep into the conference season and you’ve got two undefeated, it’s huge.” There are fans who would argue even that is an understatement. Please take note: If you live outside of Georgia and South Carolina, do not call, email, text, Facebook or knock on the doors of people inside Georgia and South Carolina between the hours of 7 and 11 p.m. on Saturday. They will be busy. The states' two undefeated SEC teams will face off in an increasingly intense rivalry that will determine bragging rights around these parts for another year, and maybe a lot more than that. Want to talk a little smack with South Carolina fans? …

Voice of the UGA Bulldogs Silenced

Legendary football broadcaster Larry Munson dead at 89.

You just couldn't forget that voice. One minute, it was as if someone were shaking gravel in a milk carton, the next, it would soar higher and higher with excitement, ending almost in the stratosphere of sound heard only by poodles. Larry Munson, who broadcast the Georgia Bulldogs football games for decades, wasn't a dispassioned observer mechanically telling listeners what was happening on the field, he was the 12th player on the team. He died Sunday night in Athens of complications from pneumonia, according to his son Michael. Funeral arrangements haven't been announced. Munson wore his red-and-black heart on his sleeve, which was also red and black. The 1980 season, when the Dawgs marched like Sherman through Georgia to the SEC and …

Gamecocks Hold on to Defeat Dawgs

UGA falls to 0-2 after wild afternoon between the hedges.

For the first time since 1996, the Bulldogs have dropped two in a row to start the season. After last week’s disappointing performance against Boise State, UGA hoped to open SEC play with a win. Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina team ruined those plans with a 45-42 victory at Sanford Stadium. UGA got on the board first with a 37-yard field goal by Blair Walsh. Walsh added another three in the first quarter to give the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead over the Gamecocks. South Carolina answered early in the second when Alshon Jefferey scored on a 34-yard pass from Stephen Garcia. Jay Wooten’s extra point placed the Gamecocks ahead 7-6. A few minutes later, Georgia regained the lead on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Murray to Rantavious Wooten. Walsh’…

It was a beautiful day for football (not even as hot as usual for September between the hedges). The Dawg walk was spectacular as always and the campus looked good too. Win or lose, you can't find a better place to be on a fall Saturday than in Athens.   more ›
