Airport Politics, Dead Robbery Suspect and Non-Medicinal Marijuana

A look at a few of the top stories this week on Dacula Patch.

IMG: County Must Get Act Together Politically The Briscoe Field controversy continued this week as IMG, the consultants hired by the county to assist with the potential privatization of the airport, advised the county to get its act together politically. No kidding. We have a divided commission, a divided public and no clearly defined goal for where the county wants to go with the airport. Let’s hope the county takes the advice of their consultants before rushing into anything for which the citizens of Gwinnett County may ultimately pay the price.   Robbery Suspect Dies From Injuries Sustained in Shootout With Police Speaking of paying the price, this is what happens when you decide to get in a shootout with police. Thankfully no police …

New Transportation Option, ‘Bomb’ Toting Robber and Delayed Development

A look at the top stories this week on Dacula Patch.

Hamilton Mill Park and Ride to Open Monday Tomorrow, Dacula commuters will have another way to reach downtown. With the closure of the HOV lane just a few weeks away and tolls set to begin, the Xpress bus may be a good option for some commuters. For those who live and work in Gwinnett … well, you can always look forward to this: County to Spend $1.1 Million to Study Transportation Alternatives That’s right – the county has authorized the expenditure of $1.1 million in taxpayer dollars to do an 18-month study of ways to move people more efficiently up and down the I-85 corridor. This from the county that offers a transit service that has lost money every year and was subsidized by you, the taxpayers, to the tune of $6.5 million in 2010. The…

Bodies Found, Preparing for July 4 and More Car Break-ins

A look at the top stories this week on Dacula Patch.

Last weekend was a sad one in Dacula as not one, but two bodies were discovered. As of Friday, police were still working to identify the body found in a wooded area adjacent to a field on Harbins Road. Police say the body has likely been there for years. Hopefully the case will be solved soon and this person’s family will have closure.     The day after a body was found off Harbins Road, another body was found in Little Mulberry Park. Tragically, the deceased in this case was a 29-year-old male who apparently committed suicide.     Tomorrow is the 235th anniversary of our Declaration of Independence. While this is a day for celebrating, it is important to remember that our forefathers were at war 235 years ago. They put their lives, …

This Week’s Top Stories: Politicians, Politics and Property

A look at the most popular stories this week on Dacula Patch.

If you have not seen the videos from this meeting, please take a few minutes to watch them. They say pictures are worth a thousand words, but video is worth even more. Just when it looked as if the RFPs were about to go forward, we learn the county is considering opening up the process to companies other than those that originally submitted qualifications for handling the privatization of Briscoe Field. We’ll see what happens when the county’s airport consultant presents their study. This was a sad story for a lot of reasons, but many people honed in on the fact that the dog was euthanized upon being taken to the shelter. For those of you who do not know, if you give up your pet to animal control, the pet can be immediately put down if it …

This Week’s Top Stories: Crime, Casinos and Commercialization

Here’s a look at five Dacula Patch stories from the past week you don’t want to miss.

It’s the same old story time and time again -- someone leaves their purse or wallet in a car thinking it will be safe only to find out the hard way that thieves like easy pickings. The Dacula area has had dozens of these type cases in the past few months. It is imperative each of us take steps to protect our belongings and minimize our risk of becoming a victim of crime. An easy way to do that is to not leave purses and other valuables in plain sight in our cars. Also, be sure to always lock your car doors. The majority of the entering auto reports I read involve unlocked vehicles. Here is a good chance to weigh in on an issue while there is still time to make a difference. Whether you are for or against allowing this type of gambling in …
