UPDATED: Dos Copas Goes out of Business

Restaurant closed its doors Saturday, April 13.

UPDATED April 15 at 9:25 a.m. The Hamilton Mill Dos Copas has closed according to restaurant owner Paul Dalrymple. In an email to Dacula Patch, Dalrymple wrote, "We are closed permanently. I will release a statement later."  As of April 15, the Dos Copas Facebook page had no word of the closing. The only notice to the public so far has been in the form of signs posted on the doors of Dos Copas which stated, "Dos Copas is closed. Thank you for 18 fun years." However, comments posted by Dos Copas in response to Facebook fans questions indicated "leasing agreement issues" were responsible for the closure. The Buffalo's Cafe locations owned by Dalrymple, including the Hamilton Mill Buffalo's Cafe, will remain open. Dos Copas was closed for a …

Dos Copas Management Addresses Health Inspection Report

Restaurant was closed for a brief period due to a repeat violation.

Dos Copas was closed for a brief period last week after receiving an 80 on a health inspection report. Dos Copas owner Paul Dalrymple emailed Dacula Patch to explain what happened and discuss the steps Dos Copas has taken to prevent future issues. According to Dalrymple: Dalrymple added that he wanted to let the community know what had happened: Dos Copas was reinspected on Feb. 8. Locked Trailer, Unlocked Car Targeted by Thieves

One of the incidents was captured on video surveillance.

Locks were not enough to prevent the Christmas Eve theft of a trailer parked behind Dos Copas. Less than a minute after the last employee left for the night on Dec. 24, video surveillance shows a two-door passenger car park behind Dos Copas. Two males exit the vehicle and cut a lock off one of the trailers in the parking lot. According to the Gwinnett County Police incident report, the males enter the trailer and then exit. The males then go to another trailer and begin cutting off the locks. One of the males then backs his car up to the trailer. The two men attach the trailer to their vehicle and drive away. The investigating officer located several of the cut padlocks in the parking lot and secured them as evidence. The report did not …

Woman Reportedly Slaps Man at Bar, Calls 12Stone a ‘Cult’

Suspect tells police that man had “been hitting on her friends and claiming to be gay.”

An altercation at a Dacula bar ended with the arrest of a Lawrenceville woman on charges of battery and disorderly conduct. Police were called to Dos Copas on Hamilton Mill Parkway in the early morning hours of Aug. 15 after Kristin Schramel, 23, allegedly slapped another bar patron in the face. The complainant told police that Schramel had slapped him for no reason. The complainant added that he had not met Schramel prior to that evening and had simply been talking with her and her friends when she suddenly became hostile. Bar Patron Gives ‘The Mean Mug,’ Punches Two Men in Jaw

Altercation at Dos Copas results in two men getting punched in the face by a third man.

Two Buford men said an unidentified male punched them in the face during an April 26 altercation at Dos Copas. Police were called to the Hamilton Mill Road restaurant just before 2 a.m. last Thursday. One of the victims said he was sitting inside the bar when he noticed a man staring at him from across the room. According to the victim, the man was giving him “the mean mug.” The victim approached the male and inquired if everything was alright. At that point, according to the police report, the male with the mean mug punched the victim in the jaw. The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) is holding another autocross on Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway. First car off around 9 am and it is free to watch. This time I get to drive a different car while ours is being "enhanced". I'll be in a F500 (again) which is the type of car I use to drive, but this car belongs to someone else.   more ›

AC/DC tribute band Back-in-Black played to a packed house Saturday night at Dos Copas. Dos Copas manager Matt Pollard said more great entertainment is planned over the next few weeks including the restaurant’s third annual Baja Beach Party on April 9.

Dacula is the place to be for live weekend entertainment.

Friends will host two bands this weekend. On Friday, check out Kurt Scobie. On Saturday, the Daniel Lee Band will be performing. Don’t forget to head back to Friends next Tuesday, March 8, for their Mardi Gras celebration. Greedy White Citizens will be the featured band. Friends will also host a masquerade costume party with a special dinner of Cajun foods including shrimp etouffee, rice and beans, seafood gumbo and more.
