Quiz: Which Presidential Candidate Is Right for You?

Online quiz helps voters find the candidate whose views most closely match their own.

If you are having a hard time deciding which candidate to support in the November presidential election, an online tool may provide some help. ISideWith.com offers a short quiz to gauge participants' views on domestic and foreign policy issues. The results are then compared with the policy positions of the candidates in order to show quiz takers which candidate has the most similar views. The quiz, which takes only a couple of minutes, indicated I side with Ron Paul and Mitt Romney on 88 percent of the issues. My views are an 85 percent match with Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson. Interestingly, of the Georgians who have taken the quiz as of Aug. 22, their views match Johnson on 51 percent of the issues followed by Ron Paul (48 percent…

Hunter Edges Past Beaudreau in Runoff for District 3 Commission Seat

Schrader, Brantley win their respective judicial races.

Gwinnett County voters went to the polls Tuesday to settle three races -- the Republican primary for the Gwinnett County District 3 Commission seat and two nonpartisan Gwinnett County judgeships. Unofficial results in the race for the District 3 commission seat show Tommy Hunter edging out Mike Beaudreau by a margin of 50.31 to 49.69 percent -- a lead of 56 votes.  Beaudreau, who was seeking a third term, fell just short of the majority vote needed to win outright during the July 31 primary and was forced into a runoff with Hunter. Dacula resident Mike Korom and former Snellville mayor Jerry Oberholtzer also ran. Georgia law allows candidates to request a recount when the margin of victory is less than 1 percent. If the runoff results hold…

Floyd I didnt bring up Bootdro and the attorney question I just kept asking about it until you addressed the question..... For the record John Heard and Tommy cant be too close after all John had Tommy removed from the planning commission in the middle of the primary....... Nice try though, but I'm pretty sure John was encouraged to make that happen and I would think I know where the driving …   more ›

Gwinnett voters will return to the polls tomorrow to decide three races. A runoff election to fill the Gwinnett County District 3 Commission seat and two Gwinnett County judgeships will occur Tuesday, Aug. 21.  In the Gwinnett County District 3 race, incumbent Mike Beaudreau will face challenger Tommy Hunter. Beaudreau vs. Hunter: Who Will Get Your Vote?

The Gwinnett County District 3 commission race will be decided during the Aug. 21 runoff.

With 47 percent of the vote, incumbent Mike Beaudreau fell short in his bid to win the Gwinnett County District 3 commission race outright. Beaudreau will now face second place finisher Tommy Hunter in the Aug. 21 runoff. In June, Dacula Patch asked each of the candidates in the race for District 3 to answer several questions regarding their political views and goals. Here, in their entirety, are the answers provided by Beaudreau and Hunter: 1.) Why are you seeking election as the Gwinnett County District 3 commissioner? Beaudreau: When the new Board of Commissioners is sworn in in January, at least four of the five seats will be held by individuals with a maximum of two years in county government.  I decided to run for a third and final …

Strong surprise of the night goes to Pam Britt for State Court Right out of the shoot, she systematically dissected a recent mailing by her opponent line by line. When it came to voting records, she had the facts to point out the errors, even the moderator found the claim made by Emily Brantley of Pam Britt being a "liberal democrat" after being shown proof of Pam's voting 6 of the last 7 …   more ›

Beaudreau Headed for Runoff, TSPLOST Fails and Broun, Balfour Win Big

Gwinnett County District 3 commission incumbent fails to secure enough votes to avoid a runoff.

Though he managed to secure over 47 percent of the vote in a four-man race, the vote tally fell short of the majority total Mike Beaudreau needed to avoid a runoff. With all precincts reporting, Beaudreau had 47 percent of the vote followed by Tommy Hunter with 22 percent and Jerry Oberholtzer with 20 percent. Dacula resident Mike Korom finished last with 10 percent.  The runoff between Beaudreau and Hunter will be held Aug. 21. Voters Say No to TSPLOST Despite a massive marketing campaign designed to convince voters that the future of Atlanta depended upon passage of the 10-year, 1 percent transportation sales tax or TSPLOST, the referendum failed by a wide margin with 62.59 percent voting against the measure. A TSPLOST referendum was …

Will Mike B's NEW county sales tax increase that he himself called a Gwinnett FAIR tax be on the ballot or not in 2012?   more ›

What Would TSPLOST Mean for Gwinnett County?

View this presentation by the Gwinnett County Department of Transportation for details regarding how TSPLOST proceeds would be spent in Gwinnett.

If the Transportation Investment Initiative referendum passes on July 31, the proceeds from the 10-year, 1-percent sales tax will fund several local transportation projects. View the above presentation by the Gwinnett County Department of Transportation for more information regarding TSPLOST projects proposed for the county. You might also be interested in reading:

Based on what I have read, the money is being spent proportional in each county which means that the amount of money raised in Gwinnett will be spent in Gwinnett. Also if you look at the Gwinnett project list, it is overwhelmingly road projects. Therefore most of our tax revenues are not going to Marta. Also they are currently only building overpasses on 316 at Collins hill road and ga 20. Under …   more ›
