How well do you know Dacula’s restaurants? Were you able to guess the restaurant just by looking at a photo of one dish? This week’s featured dish was a Monte Cristo sandwich platter. The Monte Cristo sandwich consists of smoked turkey, honey ham, provolone and American cheese layered on wheat bread and deep fried in a homemade tempura batter. The sandwich is then topped with powdered sugar and served with a side of raspberry jam and fries. If you guessed this dish came from Friends Sports Bar and Grill, you are correct! Friends Sport Bar and Grill collected $1,100 during mid-summer bash fundraiser.

A local restaurant raised over a thousand dollars this past weekend to help the surviving members of a family who tragically lost both a father and son during a fatal house fire on July 6. During its first ever mid-summer bash on Saturday, July 16, Friends Sports Bar and Grill raised approximately $1,100 to help the Cash family. In addition to monetary support, participants donated clothes and other items for family members. Donations to the "Les and Michael Cash Memorial Fund" are still being accepted at Gwinnett Federal Credit Union Branches. The mid-summer bash featured several events including live music and a wing-eating contest. Approximately 100 people were on hand to hear the debut of Pop Roxxx, a local band led by Travis Nolan. …

This Saturday, the Hamilton Mill Library will celebrate its first anniversary. Visit our local library between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. for cake, music and, of course, great books. Are you a bird watcher? Get up close and personal with some birds of prey this Saturday at the Wild Bird Center across the road from the Hamilton Mill Walmart. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Twelve-year-old Ansley Arnette is suffering from a rare medical condition. The seventh grader has been diagnosed with a non-curable brain tumor called diffuse infiltrating astrocytoma. According to Arnette’s doctors, the tumor is so rare that only a dozen or so cases have been documented in the past 20 years. Arnette’s mother Paige said the condition is even more rare in children. To help the Arnettes cope with mounting medical bills, Friends Sports Bar and Grill in Dacula is hosting an Easter Sunday benefit for the family. The restaurant will open at 11 a.m. on April 24 and all proceeds will be donated to help pay Arnette’s medical bills. Friends is also organizing a silent auction to be held during the benefit. Friends Sports Bar and Grill Friends will host a three-day Saint Patrick's Day event. On March 17, Friends will have shepherd's pie as well as corned beef and cabbage. Beer yards will be available for $6 and green beer will also be on sale. Friends will also offer a special martini – the Shamrocktini (made with sour apple vodka, a splash of triple sec and a splash of sweet and sour mixer).
