ACLU to Defend KKK's Right to Clean Up Georgia Highway

The American Civil Liberties Union has reportedly agreed to assist the Ku Klux Klan in their effort to participate in Georgia's "Adopt a Highway" program.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that the American Civil Liberties Union has agreed to represent the Ku Klux Klan in their effort to adopt and clean up a Georgia highway. Debbie Seagraves, executive director for the ACLU of Georgia, confirmed to the AJC that the organization would take on the case as a First Amendment issue. The application made the news last month when the KKK applied to adopt a stretch of roadway in Union County, Ga. After consultation with Gov. The GDOT also advised the section of roadway listed in the application was ineligible due to the posted limit exceeding 55 mph. Ku Klux Klan Wants to Participate in Georgia Adopt-a-Highway Program

If application is approved, the KKK would receive recognition for keeping a stretch of highway in Union County clean.

A Ku Klux Klan group in Union County has filed an application to participate in Georgia's Adopt-a-Highway program, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports. The application by the International Keystone Knights of the KKK in Union County has generated controversy according to the AJC. Rep. Tyrone Brooks, head of the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials, labeled the group a "domestic terror group" and called for the application to be rejected. "It should be denied just as we would deny the request from any other hate group," Brooks told Fox News. Harley Hanson, self-identified as the "exalted cyclops of the Klan’s Realm of Georgia," said his group is simply trying to be civic-minded and has threatened legal action should the …

This is the most insane drivel that I've read in the past few days. The KKK wants to adopt a highway...really? They are trying to be civic minded? How about they are trying to let everyone know that Union County is their county? If the state of Georgia allows this group.....(and I agree...they are terrorists) to put its name on a highway then all sanity has been lost in this state. I say....deny …   more ›
