Thanks for the info Kristi. I have been riding the Gwinnett Transit bus for years. The lots at I-985/GA-20 and at Discover Mills are alwyas packed, as are the buses. I was happy to hear about the addition of the Hamilton Mill lot, and now with the news of the Dacula / Hebron route, I am thrilled. I drove to downtown ATL from Lawrenceville & Dacula for nearly 10 years, and I appreciate the bus …   more ›

Park and Ride Scheduled to Open This Summer

Work continues at the new 900-space facility at Hamilton Mill Road and I-85.

Work on the new park and ride at Hamilton Mill Road and I-85 is proceeding on schedule, officials say. Georgia Regional Transportation Authority spokesman William Mecke said he expects the 900-space facility to open this July. The project cost - not including the land - is $1.7 million according to Mecke. The $147 million Congestion Reduction Demonstration program, or CRD, is a pilot program funded with a $110 million federal grant and $37 million in state matching funds. As part of the program, the high occupancy vehicle (HOV…

Hamilton Mill Park and Ride Construction Underway

New lot part of $147 million transportation project.

Georgia Regional Transportation Authority spokesman William Mecke said the $1.7 million park and ride project is one part of the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) Congestion Reduction Demonstration program. “They’ve done this all over the country,” Mecke said. “Part of that program is the expansion of transit in the [I-85] corridor and that’s where Hamilton Mill comes in.” The new park and ride facility will be located between the Sardis Church Road Walmart and I-85. Mecke expects the lot to be complete by mid-2011. Mecke said two routes…

$147 million is a "serious chunk" of money. Will the benefits outweigh the costs of the project? How many trips a day? Two to downtown and two to midtown? Will busses be 51 passenger capacity? Four trips X full load of 51 passengers = 204 vehicles removed from I-85 daily? Not even a drop in the proverbial bucket. Improve traffic congestion? Better use of the $147 million would be to effect an …   more ›
