Each week we feature a business from our hometown of Dacula. This week, learn more about Outback Bikes.
Peter Wicker opened the doors to Outback Bikes in August of 2008. Located at 2463 Hamilton Mill Parkway, the store offers sales and repairs on all types of bikes including mountain, street, racing, cruisers and childrens' bikes. I recently sat down to talk with Wicker about his business. Patch: How did you get started in the bike business? Peter: I started in the bike business in the mid 80s. I was riding quite a bit, commuting back and forth to work. Just like everybody else, I started with the same department store bike that fell apart. I went to a bike shop and they told me that my bike wasn't meant to be ridden. I actually thought they were making fun of me but turns out that they were just looking out for my best interest. I started …

Rick Duel is the owner of Rick's Custom Wood, Garden & Patio located at 2476 Hamilton Mill Road. Opened in October of 2004, Rick's offers a slew of custom, hand-crafted designs for indoor and outdoor decorations and furniture. I sat down to talk with Rick about his business. Patch: How did you get your start? Rick: I used to be a charter skipper down in the Keys. I lived in Florida for a long time. I started out carving little bears and eagles as a chainsaw carver because I had run into this old guy that was doing the same thing. You know I had a real job at one point but I decided to try the carving thing. I was then living in New England and the economy went down the toilet so I wound up coming down to Atlanta. I didn't know anybody or …

Patch checks out our hometown natural health and nutrition store.
Are you aware that we have an alternative, natural health and nutrition store right here in our hometown of Dacula? Good Vibrations opened for business back in December of 2010 and is located just across the train tracks from the high school. Sharon Cunningham owns and operates this business and was a former teacher at Fort Daniel Elementary as well as a few other Gwinnett County schools. After becoming terminally ill in 2003, Sharon began a natural health regime that essentially brought her healing and in her own words “led her to discover a whole new world.” Patch spoke with Sharon this week and here is what she had to say about Good Vibrations, Dacula and more. Patch: What motivated you to open a business here in Dacula? Sharon: My …
