Miss Hamilton Mill Pageant, Miss America Resigns on This Day in History and More

Patch gives you five things for Tuesday, July 23, 2013.

One lucky young lady will take home the title of Miss Hamilton Mill today. The pageant, now in its second year, will include the baby, tiny and petite competitions at 6:30, the little, young and junior categories at 7:30 and contestants in high school and older at 8 p.m. Click here to find out the location of the pageant. The pageant is also a Relay for Life charity pageant supporting the Sassy Survivors team, a group of 11 cancer survivors.

In historic pageant news, on this date in 1984, 21-year-old Vanessa Williams gives up her Miss America title, the first resignation in the pageant's history, after Penthouse magazine announces plans to publish nude photos of Williams in its September issue. Williams originally made history on September 17, 1983, when she became the first black woman to win the Miss America crown.
