Memorial Service, Tree Planting Scheduled for Sept. 11

The Meliora School will also host a 9/11 tribute.

The City of Dacula will mark the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorists attacks with a tree planting and memorial service at Maple Creek Park.

Volunteers will meet at Dacula City Hall at 5 p.m. and walk to Maple Creek Park, picking up litter along the way. At 6 p.m., volunteers and community leaders will meet at the park for a memorial service. Two memorial trees will be planted as part of the tribute.


Also on Sept. 11 at 9 a.m., the Meliora School, located at 2243 Alcovy Road in Dacula, will hold a 9/11 tribute. Dacula Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks is scheduled to take part in the ceremony. All local families are invited to attend.

In nearby Suwanee, a dedication ceremony will be held for a 1,600-pound artifact from the World Trade Center Towers. The display will include a 9/11 timeline and will be on permanent display in Town Center Park in Suwanee. The dedication ceremony is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
