Dooley’s Southern Stone Pizza Kitchen Opening in Dacula

Do you miss Mellow Mushroom?

Chad Appling, whose family owned the Hamilton Mill Mellow Mushroom and now operates Dooley’s Southern Stone Pizza Kitchen in Winder, said the new Dooley’s location in Dacula will provide even better pizza than Mellow Mushroom.

“Our pizza is similar to Mellow Mushroom, but it is actually better in my opinion,” he said.

The Hamilton Mill Mellow Mushroom closed after the restaurant’s lease was not renewed. Appling said his family had no desire to leave the location.

“We were doing great business-wise,” he said.

Though having to leave Dacula was a disappointment, the Applings soon opened Dooley’s Southern Stone Pizza Kitchen in Winder and are looking forward to returning to the Dacula area by the first week of April.

Dooley’s will feature a bar and a special room dedicated to couples out for a date night. What will make the restaurant really special though, Appling explained, is the handmade pizza.

“We make our own dough, make our own sauce in house every day, we cook our meats fresh every day, we cut our own vegetables fresh every day. We’re not a little delivery chain … our pizza is completely different from that,” Appling said.

Once the pizzas are assembled, they are stone baked. The restaurant offers a variety of specialty pizzas including the Firebird, Hawaii Five-0, Stairway to Heaven and the Super Chicken. 

The original Dooley’s is located at 137 East May Street in Winder. The Dacula location, Dooley’s second, will be located in The Veranda at Fort Daniel shopping center, 1862 Auburn Road in Dacula.
