Sunny and Dry Gives Way to Typical Summertime Weather

Beginning Sunday, we return to a normal summer weather pattern for at least a week

Enjoy the sunny dry weather that has been hanging around for the last several days. Today and Saturday should be more of the same, but beginning the second half of the weekend, moisture will be on the increase as an upper level low hanging around over Tennessee begins to fill and drift north. This will bring a return flow of moisture from the Atlantic, assisted by the westward push of moisture by the Bermuda high sitting offshore, and increase our chances of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. But nothing really special here, just our normal summer weather. The last several summers have been hot and dry, but that's not the "normal" for our area. Luckily for us, the really hot area remains well to our west, and looks to remain there for the foreseeable future

Temperatures will remain close to normal as we start the period, then possibly increase slightly as the week goes on. Our average temperatures for June 21st through June 28th are 87/64ºF.

The GFS is showing a strong cold front (for this time of year) pushing southeast toward the end of next week, but right now it's the only model depicting this. We'll continue to watch for signs of this front as the week goes on.

According to the National Weather Service, rainfall chances climb into the 40% range beginning Sunday and continuing toward the end of next week. Right now the Weather Prediction Center is showing an average of 1.5" over our area through the middle of next week, although that will depend on several unknowns, not the least of which is whether it actually rains at your location!

Enjoy the nice weather!
