Another Car Broken Into at Park, Thief Uses Stolen Credit Card at Walmart

Gwinnett County Police are investigating another incident in which a thief broke into a car and immediately used a stolen credit card to make a purchase.

The latest known incident occurred on Oct. 13 between 7:10 p.m. and 7:37 p.m. at Duncan Creek Park on Braselton Highway in Dacula. According to the incident report, the thief smashed the front passenger window of a 2011 Chrysler Town and Country minivan and stole a Coach purse which had been left inside the vehicle.

The purse contained a house key, office key, checkbook, credit card and $140 in cash.

By the time the theft was discovered, the thief had used the stolen credit card to make a $220 purchase at Walmart. The officer went to Walmart to review surveillance footage, but, at the time of the report, the officer and the loss prevention officer were unable to pinpoint the suspect since the system had not yet updated to show at which register the credit card had been used.

The case is listed as active.

A similar incident occurred just last month at Duncan Creek Park. In the Sept. 17 incident, a thief smashed a car window and took a purse containing a credit and debit card. Several fraudulent charges were made and police were able to review surveillance footage showing the suspect.
