Mulberry Elementary Teacher Chosen As Finalist for GCPS Teacher of the Year

Six educators remain in competition for the 2014 title.

A Mulberry Elementary School teacher is one of six Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) teachers to advance to the final round of the 2014 GCPS Teacher of the Year competition.

Heather Watkins of Mulberry Elementary, Stacey Dunlap of Simpson Elementary, Lissette McRea of Berkmar Middle, Carol Williams of Summerour Middle, Ashley Allgood of Brookwood High, and Hyunjin Son of Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology advanced from an initial pool of 130 local school teachers of the year.

Last month, that field of 130 was narrowed to 26 in the semifinal round. Now the remaining candidates will be assessed and the winner announced on Nov. 7.

Watkins, a 13-year veteran of GCPS, is a first grade teacher at Mulberry.
