Teen Assault, Lunch Inspectors and a Little Fear

A look at a few of the top stories this week on Dacula Patch.

Anyone with a teenage child should take a minute to read this article. Most people probably consider domestic violence an adult problem, but the fact is that teens can be victims and perpetrators as well. If your teenage child is in a relationship, be aware of the signs of domestic violence and talk to your teen about what is and is not appropriate behavior.

Several different accounts of this incident have surfaced since this story first broke. However, the basic fact remains unchanged – a parent packed a lunch for their child and that lunch was inspected and found to be lacking. No one wants a child to go hungry or eat nothing but chips and Twinkies, but are we as a nation ready to absolve ourselves of responsibility for seeing that our children get proper food and just hand that duty over to the government? I surely hope not.

I had the chance to talk with representatives of several businesses at the Feb. 11 Taste of Dacula. We have a couple of restaurants, a bank and an assisted living facility coming soon. Read more here:

A Little Fear Could Save Your Teen's Life

Another person I met at the Taste of Dacula was Woodrow Gaines, founder of Fear This, a teen driving school focused on giving young drivers training similar to what police recruits experience. If you have a teen driver, please check out this article to learn more about the program. As the mother of a child who was paralyzed in a car accident driving home from football practice, I can assure you that accidents can happen and everything you can do to prevent such an accident is well worth it.
